Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois. From an early age, Disney showed an interest in art and drawing. His family moved to Marceline, Missouri when he was four, which would later inspire the Main Street, U.S.A. areas in Disney theme parks.

Disney's first venture into animation began with the Kansas City Film Ad Company in 1920, where he made crude animated advertisements. In 1923, he moved to Hollywood with just $40 in his pocket and founded the Disney Brothers Studio with his brother Roy.
